Exact match [keyword] reaches queries with the same meaning or intent as your keyword. Phrase match "keyword" reaches queries that include the meaning of your keyword, with words before or after. Broad match reaches anything Google considers related to the keyword's intent — synonyms, related concepts, and looser thematic drift. All three include close variants: plurals, misspellings, reorderings, and implied terms.
The gap between the keyword you buy and the queries it matches is where budgets leak. Most advertisers discover that gap weeks later, in the search terms report, after the spend is gone. Simulating it first shows what the match type will pull in before a dollar moves: the expansions worth owning as their own keywords, and the drift worth blocking on day one.
Negative keywords do not use close variants, so blocking "free" does not block "freebie". The looser your positive match type, the more negatives carry the targeting: broad match without a negative list is a discovery budget, not a strategy. The tool suggests negatives matched to the drift it predicts, mostly as phrase negatives — the workhorse type that blocks the token wherever it appears.
Every suggestion is selectable and editable — change a match type, drop a row, copy the list in bracket-and-quote notation, or download a CSV. Connect Google Ads and the tool pushes keyword additions into the ad group you choose (paused by default, so you review bids first) and negatives into the campaign or ad group. The predictions become changes, not a spreadsheet you never open again.
